This gift guide is dedicated to Stanley Kubrick’s elusive, masterful, strange and beautiful Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
My late October rewatch of this movie inspired a revisit to the Hanro store, home to the Egyptian cotton light-as-air shirt that Nicole wears below in the iconic Hash scene. I remember spotting this in August of 2023 excited at this find.
But this shirt has certainly made its Twitter rounds, as MERMAID CAFÉ tweets here on its beautiful quality and enduring sensuality.
And I’m also inspired too by

For me, Eyes Wide Shut is a film that watches the way that New York city feels during winter Holidays. The dimness of tri-color string lights. The tuck of a wool scarf beneath a long camel coat. A pair of black leather gloves clutched to your chest.
The jest of holiday spirits undergirded with something that is not quite right. A strange stare on the sidewalk. An eeriness beside you. A creeping pause amidst laughter.
My fascination with this film is in its in between. I am very curious about what is lost. Or rather, what is not told to us as viewers. Coupled with my fixation on costuming and objects, these threads have led me to this Gift Guide.
